Love Ya Vellum + Paper Heart Banner

It is with great sadness that I welcome you to (probably) the last Valentine's post on the blog. *collective cries* I know, I know. I've been enjoying the past two weeks so much so. I've learned a lot throughout the process of creating projects everyday and posting them the next. It wasn't easy but the outcomes have made me so happy. As my final project I created a banner using the heart dies from two of my new die sets as well as some vellum, paper and tulle.

Let's get started...

For the base of my banner elements I knew I wanted to incorporate vellum. So, I grabbed the large heart die from my Folded Gift Bag Die Set (it's detachable and can be used to create a window bag) and the single heart from my Folded Airplane Die Set. I cut several of the large heart from vellum as well as some of the single heart from pink cardstock and white cardstock.

I colored the white ones with Candied Apple, Picked Raspberry, and Cracked Pistachio Distress Oxide Inks. Over top I stamped the coordinating stitching outline stamp from Love Ya in Candied Apple. I wanted these to have a little detail but not take away from the design of vellum hearts.

On my vellum hearts I stapled some pink tulle to the center. I bunched up the tulle a little bit to add some dimension. On the pink hearts I stamped "love ya" from the same stamp and popped it on top of the vellum with some foam tape. I strung all the hearts onto a banner and stapled the edges in an "x" shape.

I love the dimension of this banner and the different details I was able to incorporate. Now I just have to decide where to hang it...

Have you decorated for Valentine's Day yet? I just bought a cute pillow at CVS of all places. Let me know if the comments below!

Heart Shaker Card Using Die-Cuts + Tulle

Morning, err, afternoon, friend!

Today's post is going up a little later than usual as I was stuck up at school for a bit yesterday because of the snow! I was so bummed at the thought of not getting my post up today, but never fear...my Heart Shaker Card is here!

Let's get started...

I was inspired to create this card after die-cutting a tons of hearts from pink cardstock and noticing the negative space leftover. I thought "hey, that would be perfect for a shaker card!". So I remade the piece from white cardstock that I colored with Picked Raspberry Distress Oxide Ink and the heart die from my Folded Airplane Die Set. Can you tell from this week's projects that I'm obsessed with this heart?!

Now, if you're anything like me you find working with transparency sheets to be the most annoying thing in the world. So, to avoid using it (even though I'm 99% sure I didn't have any anyways), I grabbed the roll of tulle on my desk from yesterday's project and used that to keep my shaker bits inside! I glued the tulle to the back of the heart windows and let it kind of hang off the edge for some texture.

On top of the tulle I put foam tape and dropped the some little shaker bits into the wells. I made my shaker bits with the little heart dies also included in the die set as well as some flat sequins. I removed the release paper from the foam tape and placed my card base on top. When I flipped it over I noticed that my shaker was a little bare...oh, well. I still think it's cute. Oh, and you'll want to be sure to glue down the edges of the tulle underneath so that your bits don't fly out!

On the front I glued a little banner that I made with the tag die from the set and stamped with the Love Ya stamp set. I figured the "happy (heart) day!" sentiment worked perfectly. I also glued on some extra hearts and sequins to the front.

Although this is a shaker card I didn't find it to difficult to put together. I usually avoid shaker cards like the plague but this one was fun to make. And if I can make this after being up since 7:30 am, completing a financial accounting test, being stuck in the snow, driving home, and then starting to craft then you can too!

What are your thoughts on shaker cards? Let me know in the comments below!

Flat Vellum + Paper Valentines Treat Bags

Welcome to day #9 of Valentines week! Can you believe I've been posting for nine days?! Anyways...for today's idea I wanted to show another use for the Folded Gift Bag Die Set. I used the set to create flat, glassine-like bags from vellum and paper. I so thrilled with how they turned out! They're the perfect size for a few candies or for slipping in a gift card to the recipients favorite place.

Let's get started...

I started with the vellum bag because I wanted to see if I could really create a glassine-like bag with this die set. I cut only one of the front of the bag with the bottom, rectangular piece and one of just the front without the rectangular piece. For the top I decided to use the paper bag edge included in the set. To glue them together I used some score tape on either side and on the bottom rectangular flap and placed them on top on one another. And that was it! They come together pretty quickly once you have the pieces die-cut. You will have to trim the bag a little bit on the sides as one of them is a score line.

Inside the bag I put some red, pink and white crinkle and tied it shut with some red twine. I also strung on a tag I made using the heart from the Folded Airplane Die Set and stamping the coordinating elements from Love Ya on top. I used Candied Apple for my stamping to match the twine.

For my second bag I used some light pink cardstock and the scalloped edge. Again, I die-cut it twice, once with the bottom flap and once without, trimming of any excess. On this bag I stamped the heart from Love Ya repeatedly with Picked Raspberry Distress Oxide Ink.

For the tag I die-cut the little banner one from the Folded Airplane Die Set as well as the "soar" die-cut. I inked the tag lightly with Worn Lipstick and the "soar" with Candied Apple. On the tag I also stamped "you make my heart" and glued the "soar" just below it. The "s" slightly overlapped the hole of the tag so I just used a hole punch to make a new one. I also added some shimmer to the die-cut with my Nuvo Aqua Shimmer Pens. I stuffed some tulle inside the bag and closed it with a pink clothespin.

And those are my sweet bags! Aren't they adorable? When I was designing this die set I had originally wanted to make it so the bags would could out flat but changed my mind. I thought having a folded bag would be more useful. I am beyond excited that I figured out a way to use the set for both styles.

What do you think of today's project? Let me know in the comments below!
