For beginner stampers…

Do have a beginner cardmaker on your present list this year? Then this is the perfect gift idea to help get them started. Include a few adhesive options and few stamp sets that have lots of versatility. I chose Abstract Florals and Script Greetings because they are two of my bestsellers and have so many possibilities! Ink pads are essential as well and the ones from Catherine Pooler are perfect for beginner stampers as they are juicy and only need a light tap to get a solid image. And if you’re feeling extra generous, pop in a Mini MISTI to help alleviate those dreaded stamping mistakes!

For mixed media crafters…

One of the hottest trends in papercrafting right now is ink blending! Especially with the coveted Ranger Distress Oxides. Why not gift your crafting bestie a few new colors to add their collection? Choose a few of your favorites or colors that are perfect for creating backgrounds for the upcoming season! I chose Tattered Rose and Candied Apple for a fun, holiday palette and Tumbled Glass and Mermaid Lagoon for wintery backgrounds. Add in a few extra blending tools and foams and a fun stencil and you have a gift perfect for your inky friends!

For your friend who loves to be organized…

With the new year just around the corner (gulp), fresh planners and new pens will be lining the store shelves. Why not give your friend all the tools she needs to make her own? Start with a We R Memory Keepers Planner Punch Board and choose a few stamp sets that will help her build her spreads. I recommend Banner Alphabet, Banner Alphabet Add-On and Get Stuff Done! Add in a new pen or some bright colored ink pads and your friend is ready to take 2019 by storm!

Blessed Wreath Stencil Watercolor Card // National Craft Month with Right at Home + Ellen Hutson LLC

Good morning, friend!

I hope you're having a great week so far. I'm so excited to have you here for another day of the National Craft Month Celebration with Right at Home + Friends. (If you're thinking "Celebration? Huh?", then make sure to head to my post on Monday for more details! You don't want to miss out on this!) Today I'm welcoming another guest and dear crafty friend to the party. Please give a warm welcome to Carly Tee of Ellen Hutson LLC! Carly set today's challenge and it definitely pushed me outside my comfort zone.

Let's get started...

Blessed Wreath Stencil Watercolor Card // National Craft Month with Right at Home + Ellen Hutson LLC

Carly sent me a ton of different watercolor techniques that I could chose from and we both decided that using my Seasonal Wreath Die Set to create a stencil for my watercoloring would be perfect. I die-cut the wreath from some sticker paper I got in a pack at Staples, peeled off the release paper and placed it onto the center of a piece of watercolor paper.

You could use a variety of different images to create your stencil whether it be a wreath like mine or a doily die-cut or a cover plate with an intricate design, etc. Just make sure that whatever paper you use to make your stencil is completely covered with adhesive on the back. Once you've adhered your die-cut to the cardstock you can start your watercoloring!

For my card I used the new Seafoam ink from Catherine Pooler Designs. I love the blue-green hue of this ink and it works perfectly for my spring card. I also painted some scraps of watercolor cardstock with Green Tea and It's a Girl which I later die-cut some leaves and flowers out of. For my sentiment die-cut I used the Shea Butter color which is a gorgeous butter-y yellow.

After die-cutting all my floral pieces I started to arrange them on my wreath. Once I achieved a layout I was happy with I glued them down using the Nuvo Deluxe Adhesive. For the sentiment die-cut I used the "blessed" from my Script Greetings Die Set and cut a few additional ones out of plain white cardstock to adhere underneath the colored one for added dimension. I stamped the coordinating sub-sentiment from Script Greetings underneath and popped the panel onto an A2 cardbase.

You'll also notice that I used the largest rectangle from my Find the Beauty Die Set to die-cut my watercolor panel. I did this after the watercoloring so that I was able to flatten the piece a bit by running it through my die-cutting machine. Oh! And I added Nuvo Jewel Drops in Limoncello to the center of each of the flowers.

You can watch my step-by-step process in the video below...

Now, be sure to head over to the Ellen Hutson blog to see Carly's take on this challenge. I had a little sneak peek yesterday and her project is oh, so sweet.

Thank You Embossed Resist Watercolor Card // National Craft Month with Right at Home + Friends

Happy Monday, crafty friend!

Today I am beaming with excitement because today marks day #1 of the National Craft Month Celebration with Right at Home + Friends! Every year I try to do something fun to celebrate our favorite hobby and this year is no different. Each day this week you can come back here for a new post (& video!) featuring a fun challenge, special guests, prizes and even an exclusive coupon code or two. Stay tuned to the end of this post for info on how to participate.

I'm kicking off the week solo because my special guest, Ruby, had her new bundle of cuteness and wasn't able to join me. No fear, she will be with us later this week! Congrats Ruby!

Let's get started...

NCM-Banner.png

The first challenge for the week is to be inspired by the word "layers", which can be interpreted in so many ways. I decided to take a watercolor-y, texture-y angle for my card project.

Thank You Embossed Resist Watercolor Card // National Craft Month with Right at Home + Friends - rightathomeshop.com/blog

I started with some watercolor paper cut to an A2 size and added layers of different colors. I used Ranger Distress Oxide Inks as my medium which creates a beautiful, creamy watercolor look. I used Picked Raspberry, Candied Apple, Fossilized Amber and Wild Honey as my color palette. After I colored on my first layer of color I dried the paper with a heat tool and added another layer for even more vibrancy.

My next layer was achieved using some of the floral stamps from my Bunny Hugs set and white embossing powder. I heat-embossed several of the images towards the center to act as a backdrop for some die-cutting later on. I used the "thank you" die from my Script Greetings Die Set to cut into the center of the piece, making sure to keep all the little cut-out bits to use for my inlay.

In the negative space of the die-cut "thank you" I added a few layers of white cardstock also cut with the die upon which I adhered the "thank you" die-cut with the watercoloring and embossing on it. That sounds really confusing, but don't worry, there's a video. At this point I decided to trim down the watercolor piece around the "thank you" to add some texture. I adhered the piece onto another A2 panel and added some additional watercolored strips underneath to add even more color. I used Cracked Pistachio for these.

As a finishing touch I ran the panel through my sewing machine with a zig-zag stitch as a final layer. I love keeping the little strands hanging from the side of the card but you can trim those if you'd like to.

If you're more of a visual learner, you can watch my process video below...
